Oct. 10/01 - Council Meeting to Discuss Renaming Marietta Street
To increase the body count for this decision show up on Tuesday. Oct. 10 at 9AM at the City Hall ( 55 Trinity Street ) Room #2.
An email message highlighted at right was received by Bill Gould 10PM Oct.9,2000.
Attendance at above City Hall meeting is not necessary.
Councilman Maddox's office confirms that a paper will be submitted at Tuesday meeting to file the proposal for Marietta Street name change. This means that councilman Maddox is removing the proposal from consideration. He reached this decision after having a conversation with Ivan Allen, Jr. who has requested his name be removed from consideration. Thank you again to Grover Sterling and to everyone who worked on this effort on behalf of our community. THE ARTERY is alive and well and will continue to strengthen its alliances within the neighborhood and city government.
Sept. 26/01 - Winters Variance Meeting

1. Winter Properties came up with an agreeable plan. An elevation and section of this new building can be seen below. MSAA restrictions are outlined as follows in a letter from Bill Gould to Mr. Randel Lautzenheiser, Chairman of Neighborhood planning Unit E.
Official position of MSAA

2. The head of Planning from Georgia Tech attended the variance meeting and mentioned Tech's Master Plan which includes shutting off Tech Parkway. Diagram directly below shows mid Artery -- Marietta Street is imagined as a tree lined (albeit very busy) Grand Boulevard.

3. Also announced at this meeting by King Shaw is that the King Plow Historic District has been officially approved. The district area is 76 acres and includes The King Plow Arts Center and surrounding development, Ashby Street Trolley Barn, Puritan Mill, E. Van Winkle Gin and Machine Works, The White Provision Building ,some Richard Martin properties and other buildings. The detailed research by Georgia State preservation students will be published on this site by the end of the year.
2nd Public Meeting Scheduled for Tues. Sept. 26/01 at 5:30 PM

Winters Properties is going to make a second presentation to deal with the results of Sept. 20 meeting at the above time.
Results of Sept. 20 Meeting : Shortage of parking on Means Street is already a problem in the present and the parking reduction variance requested for a total of 180 spaces was found to be unacceptable by the consensus of the community. This included 75 spaces short in the parking deck + 105 surface spaces from a previous reduction variance. Winter Properties may move their offices back into this area and is concerned on a personal level about the impact on the environment.
In terms of visual impact, the new building's facades and sections are sympathetic to the existing buildings in elevation and scale. Drawings will be posted here next week.

Winters/Dux Developers Illegally Cut Down Ancient Oak
The highlighted buildings in the drawing below represent Winter Properties and Dux Developers schematic plans to construct over a million square feet of mixed use development. Becoming overly alacritous in their pursuits, a crime was committed when a generous old oak tree was blatantly destroyed. The following are letters written to Commissioner Dobbs concerning this grave offense against the quality of Atlanta's environment.

Bill Gould Organizing A Major Tree Planting
Bill Gould has been working with Trees Atlanta to plant trees in the Mid-Artery Area - trees that will bless the inhabitants of these buildings with shade and fresh air for hundreds of years to come. All the building owners are cooperating except Alderhold Properties, who claim they will do tree plantings after building renovations in the near future. Call Bill at 404-521-0957 for more information.
